Maga Bo – Quilombo do Futuro – OUT NOW!

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2012

Been looking forward to this one from Maga Bo a while, and it just dropped yesterday. Some serious live instrumentation meets up with a heap of Brazilian MCs and singers and they bring the fire: soca, baile funk, samba, capoeira fusing with contemporary bass culture styles. Go here for the official press release, and/or check the tunes below to get an idea of what it all sounds like…

You want buy? CD is currently on sale in Brazil, but come June will be available worldwide. Big up everyone who contributed on the Kickstarter, your goodies should be in the post now.

Fettercairn Community Garden

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2012

Did a workshop out in Fettercairn about a year ago with some young lads. Ended up making a sign for the community garden out there. Got asked to come back to paint the toolshed out there, shipping container stylee. Wilko and myself hit it up over a few weekends, shit weather and corrugated surfaces being something of a challenge. Worked out sweet in the end, happy with the clour scheme and learned a ton in terms of just keeping things BIG, BAD and HEAVY. Here’s what we did:

A Joyful Slog

Monday, May 21st, 2012

Great documentary here taking a look at the independent bands and labels that have been responsible for so much of the good music coming from Ireland the last few years. Well worth a watch! Big up the Community of Independents collective who made it, and Dublin Community Television who produced.

Graf Workshop in Castleknock College

Sunday, May 20th, 2012

Buzzed up to Castleknock College to do a graffiti workshop couple of weeks ago. The lads had a rough idea of what they wanted, so I provided them with some sketches on boards, and they filled them in. First time for a lot of them, so fair play for the quality of work. A lot of them showing some good can control, which is a nice thing to balance with teenage enthusiasm! Chek it:

In the studio with Ed Devane

Saturday, May 12th, 2012

Ayo, popped into Ed Devane‘s studio recently to see what he’s up to. Sitting on his arse he was not. In typical Ed style, he’s been busy mastering woodwork, metalwork and electronics to create more of his electro-acoustic instruments. There was a range of finished pieces to see (I call them ‘pieces’ cos the finish on them is practically sculptural, dig?), ranging from feedback machines to stringed devices designed to be bowed with knife sharpeners to thumb-piano style percussion instruments. Here’s some photos:
