Kansas City Prophets (LIVE), T-Polar, Eomac B2B Redmonk @ !Kaboogie

This Friday, !Kaboogie’s latest signings, London’s Kansas City Prophets and Belfast’s T-Polar will be treating us to some audio splendor of the finest ilk.

I first heard Kansas City Prophets back in 2003. His two EPs for Control Tower, ‘Ignition’ and ‘Puncture’ were some of the finest records put out by the electro imprint. 2005 featured the mighty Grim Dubs Vol. 3 (released by Werk Discs). Releases for Seed Records, Wide and, more recently, Balkan Vinyl have  followed since.

One of the more ear-opening experiences I have had was checking a liveset he did for London-based radio stream ILLFM. While there was still a strong electro framework there, it was coated in a film of dubwise excellence that blew me away, add to that some great vocal work by guests such as Linton Kwesi Johnson and Soom T and yr onto a winner!

Here’s a recent set of his to get a feel of his music, deep, bass-heavy tunes that are free of clichés yet mash up a dancefloor.

Prolific comes somewhat close to describing T-Polar (check his discography). One of the men responsible for the legendary Ecker nights in the Menagerie, he’s a master of all styles, the consistent motifs being lethal basslines and warped vocal science.

Keep eyes and ears out for KBG004 “Defiance EP”, with two tracks each from the lads, plus vocal appearances from none other than LINTON KWESI JOHNSON and SOOM T.

In the meantime, see ye up the front on Friday!
